  • Bad design, building caused dangers at tallest dam
By ELLEN KNICKMEYER, Associated Press - Tuesday Sep 5, 2017

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Bad design and construction and inadequate state oversight led to a disastrous spillway collapse at the nation's tallest dam, an independent team of national dam safety experts said Tuesday. The experts investigating February's spillway failures at California's Oroville Dam say the state probably could have detected the problems if dam managers had reviewed the original flaws in the half-century-old dam, using modern engineering standards.Authorities ordered nearly 200,000 people to evacuate Feb. 12 after both spillways at Oroville Dam collapsed. • Lack of technology left officials in dark during dam crisis
By MICHAEL R. BLOOD and ELLEN KNICKMEYER, Associated Press - Thursday Sep 7, 2017

But on Feb. 12, as murky floodwaters washed away the second of two failing spillways, nightfall left officials struggling to figure out what was happening."Can't confirm.
