  • Google unveils smaller smart speaker

    Google on Wednesday unveiled a new miniature version of its smart speaker Google Home, a round, fabric-covered device called the Mini, and a voice-activated speaker for music called the Max. The $49 Mini is a fraction of the $129 cost of the original device. Available in stores Oct. 19, the Mini will come in three colors, coral, chalk and charcoal. It looks slightly like a rounder, softer hockey puck. Google said it would start taking orders online Wednesday. Isabelle Olsson, a lead designer, said the device will have a custom-made fabric design to let light and sound through, including the LED lights that signal the voice-activated assistant is working.
