WAWAYANDA, N.Y. (AP) — Oscar-nominated actor James Cromwell is heading to jail in New York for blocking traffic to protest a power plant.A town judge sentenced the 77-year-old Cromwell and two fellow protesters to a week in the Orange County Jail for civil disobedience at the construction site of a 650-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant in December 2015.

An orange glow in the distance loomed over Calistoga late Friday night, a reminder of what could come — and what everyone here was hoping to avoid. The Tubbs Fire, which has burned a 35,270-acre-acre swath of destruction across Napa and Sonoma counties, killing at least 19 people, was about two miles beyond Calistoga city limits at about 11 p.m. But the winds, weather forecasters said, would pick up overnight. The graveyard shift was a busy one. Oakland Police and California Highway Patrol cruisers drove deliberately through the vacation town’s deserted streets.
