    We could use a Graham Greene in these times. He not only hated Nazis, he understood how fascist idealism could infect a society: through your neighbor. In his short story “The Lieutenant Died Last” and novel “Ministry of Fear,” Greene posited that no matter how powerful the German armed forces were, the Nazis’ secret weapon would be propaganda recruiting ordinary citizens. The Berkeley Art Museum’s Pacific Film Archive series of film adaptations of Greene stories checks all the Carol Reed boxes, opening with his masterpiece, “The Third Man” (7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6), and later features adaptations of “Our Man in Havana” and “The Fallen Idol.
