By Associated Press - Wednesday Aug 30, 2017
A person familiar with the discussions says that the Green Bay Packers and free agent linebacker Ahmad Brooks have agreed to a one-year deal. Brooks, 33, was released by the 49ers last week. He is a two-time second-team All-Pro. Matthews and Perry are nursing minor injuries, and coach Mike McCarthy has said he had no long-term concern about his starters.
- 49ers release LB Ahmad Brooks
By Eric Branch - Friday Aug 25, 2017
The 49ers, a team in the beginning stages of a major rebuilding project, on Friday released linebacker Ahmad Brooks, 33, an 11-year veteran who was their longest-tenured defensive player. Brooks ranks third in franchise history in sacks (51.5), is tied for second in postseason sacks (6.5) and was one of two players on the roster with more than 20 career sacks. However, he was also the third-oldest player on the roster — behind kicker Robbie Gould (35) and linebacker Elvis Dumervil (also 33, but two months older than Brooks) — and was in the final year of a contract that included a $4.45 million base salary this season.
