  • A’s Bruce Maxwell held out after foul ball off the mask
By Susan Slusser - Sunday Aug 20, 2017

HOUSTON - Catcher Bruce Maxwell was held out of the A’s lineup Sunday at Minute Maid Park as a precaution after taking a foul ball of the mask the night before. Maxwell said that he felt a little bit out of it Saturday, didn’t sleep well after the game and was feeling sluggish Sunday morning. “He took a shot to the mask again,” manager Bob Melvin said. “He’s taken quite a few of these. No concussion symptoms, certainly no concussions, but with a day game, we’re trying to be proactive. If he took another one today, there’s a potential for problems. “Our training staff has as good a handle on these as anyone, having had to deal with a number of them, and they know the protocol really well.
