  • Weekend booking: Dave Eggers and Shawn Harris
By Maxine Marshall - Tuesday Oct 10, 2017

Dave Eggers’ new children’s book examines our nation’s values through the history of the Statue of Liberty. But this is no dry social science lesson. With colorful illustrations by Shawn Harris, “Her Right Foot” (Chronicle Books; $19.99) is lively and funny, inviting us to consider why Lady Liberty has been portrayed mid-stride. “This 150 foot woman is on the go!” writes Eggers. At it happens, the book couldn’t be more timely, coming out at a time when the nation is hotly debating the issue of immigration. Eggers, with Harris, will read from the book at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Green Apple Books, 1231 Ninth Ave., San Francisco, and at 5 p.m. Saturday at Book Passage, 51 Tamal Vista Blvd., Corte Madera.
