- Raiders’ Khalil Mack at the summit among NFL pass rushers
By Vic Tafur - Wednesday Sep 6, 2017
Khalil Mack heard that Von Miller was doing something for the kids in the Bay Area in June. The Raiders’ defensive end was surprised when he showed up for the event at Stanford. “It was only NFL guys, and I was like, ‘What’s going on?’” Mack said. Miller “was like, ‘Bro, you came here to get some work.’ I was like, ‘Oh.’ Luckily I had my cleats and I was like, ‘All right, cool. Go ahead.’” It’s not like Mack and Miller, the Broncos’ star linebacker, need a lot of work. They are 1-2 in sacks in the NFL the past two seasons, with Mack’s 26 edging Miller’s 24.5. But Von Miller’s Pass Rush Summit, was a smashing success. “It was dope,” Mack said.

By Vic Tafur - Sunday Aug 20, 2017
Although Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch won’t discuss why he is sitting for the national anthem, teammates Derek Carr and Khalil Mack were in the locker room late Saturday night, explaining their subtle actions during the anthem before the preseason game against the Rams. Carr placed his right hand on Mack’s left shoulder as a show of solidarity, they said. “We’re not protesting,” Carr said. “We’re not doing anything like that. What we wanted to do was show all the kids that look up to me, look up to him, that white kids, blue kids, brown kids, blue, green, doesn’t matter, can all be loving to each other.” Mack said he wanted to “show unity” between “different races.

By Vic Tafur - Sunday Aug 6, 2017
A thousand cop movies and TV shows can’t be wrong.Raiders defensive leaders Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin relish playing those roles when it comes to helping and the getting the most out of the team’s rookies and second-year players.Linebacker Shilique Calhoun recently said Irvin and Mack were the two toughest coaches on the field.Irvin has been impressed with a couple of the rookies up front on the defensive line at training camp.“We are a confident group and we feel like we have everything we need to be a Top-5, Top-10 defense,” Irvin said. The defensive players could even pick something up from new running back Marshawn Lynch, who came out of retirement to play for his native city of Oakland and with former Seahawks teammate Irvin. The “Beast Mode” physical, in-your-face style is contagious, Irvin said. When we were in Seattle, and the defense would see him break five or six tackles on a long run, it got us hyped up.Vic Tafur is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer.
