AMC Theatres, which is owned by China’s recently embattled Wanda Group, announced plans to cut costs and “enhance” revenues in a Tuesday filing as the world’s largest exhibitor contends with a box office slump, which sent its stock plummeting 25 percent in after-hours trading.“Against the U.S. industry backdrop of a weaker than anticipated second quarter and estimates for a very challenging third quarter, the company has embarked on a domestic cost reduction and revenue enhancement plan to better align operating expenses with theatre attendance in its markets and reduce general and administrative costs for the balance of 2017 and into 2018,” AMC said in its release.AMC said it expects its cost savings and revenue enhancement plan to result in a gain of $30 million in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, a common metric measuring a company’s profitability, through the end of the year.
- Bone Thugs-N-Harmony assemble for UC Theatre show
By Peter Hartlaub - Tuesday Aug 22, 2017
When N.W.A. legend Eazy-E signed Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in 1993, the group blended the street-wise vibe of their patron with a melodic side that allowed the five-member group to develop its own sound. Nearly a quarter of a century later, Bone Thugs — with five original members Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone and Flesh-n-Bone — continues to tour, and are scheduled to perform at Berkeley’s UC Theatre on Saturday, Aug. 26. It’s unclear if the concert will include many songs from their 10th studio album, “New Waves,” released this summer, which mostly features Krayzie Bone and Busy Bone, but earlier hits like “Thuggish Ruggish Bone” and “Tha Crossroads” are close to a guarantee.
