More than 200 locales submitted formal bids to house Amazon’s second North American headquarters — including several in the Bay Area. The retailer announced Monday it received 238 proposals from cities and regions eager to host “HQ2,” a $5 billion investment that Amazon says will bring 50,000 high-paying jobs to the winning city. When Amazon announced its search for a second home on Sept. 7, the company included a list of requirements: a city with over 1 million people, a business-friendly environment, the ability to attract tech talent, and “communities that think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options.
