  • NY Times needs to come clean on wiretap headline
By John Crudele - Thursday Sep 7, 2017

The Justice Department announced this week that there was no evidence that Trump Tower was wiretapped, as President Trump alleged. OK, that almost settles the issue. I’m still waiting for the New York Times — the self-proclaimed “paper of record” — to explain its Jan. 20 front page story that had the headline “Wiretapped Data...

  • NY agency called Justice Center may lack power to prosecute
By DAVID KLEPPER, Associated Press - Wednesday Sep 20, 2017

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A New York state agency launched four years ago to protect the disabled from abuse and neglect was staffed with a team of investigators and prosecutors empowered to bring criminal cases against alleged wrongdoers. But it lacked one key thing, according to three recent court rulings: the legal authority to actually prosecute anyone. That has potentially put dozens of convictions in jeopardy and threatens to undermine the mission of the agency, known as the Justice Center, to protect the 1 million disabled, addicted and mentally ill in state care.

Blown to bits this week by general managers in Buffalo and Winnipeg who might as well have whistled while they worked at eviscerating the CBA. Because honestly, if teams are not going to exercise leverage the one time they own it when dealing with...

  • Justice Dept. sues to stop AT&T's $85B Time Warner deal
By TALI ARBEL, AP Technology Writer - Monday Nov 20, 2017

NEW YORK (AP) — The Justice Department is suing AT&T to stop its $85 billion purchase of Time Warner, setting the stage for an epic legal battle with the telecom giant. The government claims that consumer cable bills will rise if the merger goes through, saying the deal would "substantially lessen competition, resulting in higher prices and less innovation for millions of Americans." AT&T would be able charge rival distributors such as cable companies "hundreds of millions of dollars more per year" for Time Warner's networks, the Department of Justice charged in a press release. Those payments are ultimately passed down to consumers through their cable bills.
