  • Browns rookie Myles Garrett out weeks with ankle injury
By Associated Press - Friday Sep 8, 2017

Myles Garrett’s NFL debut for the Browns won’t happen for weeks. The top overall pick in this year’s draft will miss Sunday’s opener against Pittsburgh and possibly a few more games after severely spraining his right ankle during practice. A teammate fell on the back of Garrett’s leg during a drill Wednesday. An MRI revealed that Garrett, who’s 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, has a high ankle sprain, a tricky injury that typically takes several weeks to heal. His status will be updated in a “couple of weeks,” the team said. That means he will sit out against the Steelers and likely the following week at Baltimore, and perhaps other games. Garrett is not expected to need surgery.

  • 49ers’ rookie CB welcomed rudely to NFL
By Eric Branch - Wednesday Aug 2, 2017

49ers’ rookie CB welcomed rudely to NFLAhkello Witherspoon was criticized for his finesse tackling in college, but the 49ers rookie cornerback stood his ground when running back Carlos Hyde sprinted toward him near the end of practice Wednesday. The 228-pound Hyde, who outweighs Witherspoon by more than 30 pounds, capped a six-yard touchdown run by bulldozing the third-round pick at the goal line. After Witherspoon received the rag-doll treatment, defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said he was caught flat-footed and expressed confidence in his tackling ability.First-round pick Reuben Foster has three interceptions in five training-camp practices, but he’s still working primarily with the third-team defense. In team drills, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner walked off slowly and later had his lower left ankle heavily taped during practice. In other injury news, undrafted rookie cornerback Zach Franklin (left leg) was injured during individual drills and walked slowly off the field with a trainer.Safety Eric Reid (ankle) only participated in individual drills and appeared to be running at full speed.

CHICAGO (AP) — Three times a week, Rita Driscoll steps onto a treadmill at a Minnesota hospital under the eye of a rehab therapist. She walks until it hurts — pushing her limits, walking faster and adding steeper inclines. The retired school aide has leg pain caused by clogged blood vessels. Until recently, monitored walking wasn't an option for people with peripheral artery disease, or PAD, because most insurance doesn't cover it."I'm not giving up my legs," said Driscoll, who walks as part of a study. "Hopefully it will keep me away from surgery and keep me walking and dancing.
