    SAN DIEGO — The September roster expansions begin Friday, with manager Bruce Bochy predicting the number of promotions from the minors will be smaller than usual because of injuries. Christian Arroyo is still recuperating from a broken hand and Tyler Beede from a groin strain. They almost certainly would have been in the majors if healthy, with Arroyo up long before Sept. 1. Relievers Derek Law and Steven Okert will be back, with a chance that right-handed submariner Ty Rogers, a Triple-A All-Star this year, and left-hander D.J. Snelton, will join them. If not Friday, then after the Pacific Coast League season ends Monday.
