- Weekend booking: Beast Crawl
Tuesday Aug 29, 2017
Litquake is coming back to San Francisco from Oct. 6 to 14, closing with its traditional nighttime Lit Crawl through the Mission District. Those who’d like to get in shape for the event might wish to take part in another literary crawl — across the bay — that’s growing in popularity. Thirty readings will make up the sixth annual Beast Crawl, held in three legs, from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, in downtown Oakland. (Don’t let the name frighten you: “Beast Crawl” comes from the Pig Latin for beast — East Bay — and nicely evokes the Oakland port’s monstrous cranes.) Almost 40 bars, restaurants, galleries and storefronts will host more than 150 writers. The entire festival is free.
