  • Deneuve and Frot superb in ‘The Midwife’
By Mick LaSalle - Wednesday Jul 26, 2017

The second career of Catherine Deneuve is one of the ongoing pleasures of Western cinema. Here’s an actress who became famous for being icy and beautiful and a half-century later she is matter-of-fact and down-to-earth, warm and unguarded in a way that makes you think that this is what she must have been like all along.Frot plays the title character, Claire, a midwife who works in a hospital unit that is about to be mothballed in favor of something high tech and impersonal.Beatrice has a lust for adventure, as well as for alcohol, cigarettes and red meat, and her life has been a series of romantic liaisons. An American movie would have found it necessary to decide whose way is right or wrong, but this is a French movie, so the concentration is not on moral categories but on the particulars of human behavior.[...] we get a closely observed, intelligently imagined and realized presentation of contrasting personalities.Frot is superb (as always), giving us a full sense of Claire’s inner life despite the reticence of the character’s outward manner.Mick LaSalle is The San Francisco Chronicle’s movie critic.

By Jamie Feltham, Upload VR - Sunday Oct 15, 2017

Of all the many platforming heroes we’d love to bring to VR, we have to admit Sonic the Hedgehog wasn’t one we’d previously considered. As we all know, Sega’s Blue Bullet has gotta go fast, a little too fast for VR comfort levels. That hasn’t stopped a fan from making an unofficial version of the […]
