- Dude discovers his airport selfie with Jessica Alba is displayed in a deli he's never been to
By Chloe Bryan - Thursday Jul 6, 2017
Let this tale be a lesson to you: you never know where your Instagrams are going to end up.
Last January, Dave Jennings took a selfie with Jessica Alba after running into her at the airport. He posted the photo to Imgur and people saw it. Great!
But the real story begins this week, when Jennings's friend Jack spotted the photo above the counter at a Monterey, California, deli. A deli that Jennings had never been to.
And, unfortunately, Jennings hadn't made the final crop.
So, why did a deli want to display this particular photo? Who knows! Perhaps Alba had visited the deli, but the managers didn't get a chance to snap a pic of their own — in which case, that's what the internet is for. Read more...More about Reddit, Selfies, Imgur, Jessica Alba, and Culture
- Walmart's Jet.com is launching its own line of groceries to compete with Amazon
By Patrick Kulp - Friday Sep 29, 2017
Walmart's Jet.com is the latest retailer to double down on the online grocery war.
The site announced Thursday that it's launching its own in-house grocery label that will encompass household staples like coffee, olive oil, laundry detergent, and paper towels.
The product line, called Uniquely J, will target "metro millennial" consumers with perhaps more emphasis on quality than your average generic store brand. Walmart has been trying to position Jet as the hipper alternative to its own cheap, mass-market brand with a stable of trendy names like Bonobos and Modcloth available exclusively on the site. - Walmart wants to deliver groceries to your fridge while you're not home
By Patrick Kulp - Sunday Sep 24, 2017
Walmart is now offering to stock your fridge for you—even if you're not home.
The big-box giant is teaming with a smart lock startup called August Home to test a service in which workers would use a temporary door code to deliver groceries straight to your kitchen.
"Think about that—someone else does the shopping for you AND puts it all away," Walmart vp Sloan Eddleston wrote in a blog post announcing the test. "This may not be for everyone–and certainly not right away–but we want to offer customers the opportunity to participate in tests."More about Amazon, Walmart, Business, Startups, and Food
- Driverless vans will now deliver groceries in London
By Brett Williams - Wednesday Jun 28, 2017
Forget drones — self-driving cars can now deliver your groceries.
Autonomous delivery vehicles are making drop-offs in London as part of a trial program and study spearheaded by University of Oxford self-driving spin-off Oxbotica, as well as Ocado Technologies, a developmental division of the UK-based, online-only supermarket service.
The project aims to test out an emission-free, electric self-driving van—dubbed the CargoPod—as a low-impact last step in the fulfillment chain to get orders to customers. The trial is limited to a few developments in the Royal Borough of Greenwich as part of the larger, government-backed GATEway Project.
