An Air Force academy preparatory school in Colorado was on lockdown late Friday because of a possible active shooter. Residents at the academy, in Colorado Springs, were told by military police to shelter in place after reports of shooting at the campus community center. All access to the academy was also ordered closed.

A student carrying a toy Nerf gun prompted to the lockdown of Las Positas College in Livermore for about half an hour on Wednesday morning, police said. The lockdown and police sweep of campus began around 11:30 a.m. and was lifted around noon. “ (The) Incident at Las Positas College (was the) result of a student bringing a Nerf gun on campus,” the Livermore police said in an announcement. “No intent to cause harm or problems.” Initially, police had described the cause of the lockdown as a “suspicious circumstance.” Students and staff at the college, at 3000 Campus Hill Drive north of downtown Livermore, had been asked to “shelter in place.
