The Vespertine Circus pays tribute to cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” by giving it a whimsical twist — and, to be clear, this is not a movie screening. Instead, the Oakland independent circus and performing arts troupe plans to bring “a tight-wire Time Warp” and “a high-flying Columbia.” The circus starts at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, and runs Fridays and Saturdays through Sept. 30 at the Great Star Theater. Audience members are encouraged to dress in costume. Debuting in 2016, “The Rocky Horror Circus Show” is a Vespertine original production and follows season opener “Charlie & the Chocolate Circus.
