    By Jeremy Fuster, provided by
    - Sunday Sep 10, 2017

Warner Bros./New Line’s “It” has performed beyond box office analysts’ wildest dreams — or nightmares — posting an opening weekend of $117.1 million from 4,103 screens. That gives it the third-highest opening weekend of 2017 behind only “Beauty and the Beast” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and puts it just above the $117 million opening made by “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”Andy Muschietti’s adaptation of Stephen King’s famous novel will easily become the biggest opening for a film released in September or October and more than double the record set by “Hannibal” in 2001 for biggest horror movie opening.

  • 5 Reasons ‘It’ Became Horror’s Biggest Box Office Success Ever
    By Jeremy Fuster, provided by
    - Sunday Sep 10, 2017

Boy, did the box office need this one. After the weakest Labor Day weekend since the turn of the century, Warner Bros./New Line Cinema’s “It” came in and outperformed not only the optimistic analyst projections, but also the entire four-day revenue from last weekend with a $117.1 million opening. With that result, “It” narrowly beats out “Spider-Man: Homecoming” for the third-biggest opening of 2017, and more than doubles the record set by “Hannibal” for the biggest horror movie opening of all-time.

  • Apple brings back ‘Amazing Stories’; car charges via drone?
By Chronicle Staff and News Services - Wednesday Oct 11, 2017

Apple brings back Spielberg series Apple is digging into the more than $1 billion it has set aside for original programming to create its first known television project: a revival of a Steven Spielberg series from the 1980s. It struck a 10-episode deal to revive “Amazing Stories,” NBCUniversal has confirmed. Apple is making a huge push to compete against Facebook and Google, which have followed Netflix and Amazon into the streaming business. Bryan Fuller, whose credits include “Hannibal,” “American Gods” and “Heroes,” will serve as executive producer. It was not clear if Spielberg will be actively involved in the series.
