The Tool in the Pool is back. Ryan “Blame it on Rio” Lochte successfully returned from his 10-month suspension by winning the 200-meter medley in record time Sunday at the U.S. Open in Long Island. Of greater importance though is that the gas station bathrooms in and around the East Meadow N.Y. area are still...

- Renaming Sharon Meadow after Robin Williams gets official support
By Dominic Fracassa - Monday Sep 11, 2017
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department has given its nod of support to a renaming of Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park after Robin Williams. The effort to rename Sharon Meadow — a wide, grassy lawn at the east end of the park that is often the site of performances and celebrations — after the late comedian and actor is being led by local comedians Debi Durst and her husband, Will. The pair have worked to put on Comedy Day — an annual showcase for local comedians — at Golden Gate Park for the past 37 years. The proposal has the support of the park department and the mayor’s office, but the decision to rename the space rests with the Recreation and Park Commission.

- Three takeaways from Warriors’ Summer League win over Minnesota
By Connor Letourneau - Thursday Jul 13, 2017
Through four games of Summer League, McCaw has played with the ease of a player fresh off contributing in Game 5 of the Finals. In 32 minutes, McCaw had 26 points on 10-for-16 shooting to go along with five assists and four rebounds. The highlight came with roughly a minute left, when he knifed to the rim and netted an off-kilter floater to put the Warriors up 73-69.The Warriors paid Chicago $3.5 million last month for the draft rights to Bell largely because they saw similarities between the former Pac-12 Player of the Year and Draymond Green.A 6-foot-8, 225-pound power forward who can play center in small-ball lineups, Bell is adept at crashing the glass, swatting shots and guarding multiple positions.Less than 24 hours after he had five points, 11 rebounds, five assists, five steals and six blocks against Minnesota, Bell set a Golden State Summer League franchise record with 16 rebounds. While McCaw and Bell have excelled in Las Vegas, the other two players who will be on the Warriors’ roster next season — Looney and Jones — have been inconsistent. After missing Tuesday’s double-overtime loss with an allergic reaction in his eyes, Looney only recorded two rebounds — his trademark statistical category — in 16 minutes. After hip surgeries limited him to five games as a rookie in 2015-16, he struggled in limited playing time last season.
- How Le Bon keeps Duran Duran fresh
By Aidin Vaziri - Wednesday Jul 27, 2016
Sure, the British pop band scored a majority of its biggest hits a few decades back, but last year saw the release of “Paper Gods,” an album that managed to conjure the electricity of the early years with a slew of top-notch collaborators like Mark Ronson, Janelle Monae, Kiesza, Nile Rodgers and Lindsay Lohan. The group is once again on tour — minus keyboardist Nick Rhodes, who is out for a family emergency while Amanda “MNDR” Warner fills in — with a stop scheduled at the Outside Lands festival.Do you ever go to festivals as a civilian? Is it weird? How time flies when you’re having fun.Where do you get that spark?[...] if you’re talking about the general attitude — we grew up with David Bowie, who maintained an amazing artistic presence for decades. The other thing is to do with spontaneity and being open and free to let the good stuff into your life. How do you reconnect with them?Reconnecting is the right thing.Songs go through phases. If you work hard at your songwriting, you’ve got a lot of good songs.Aidin Vaziri is The San Francisco Chronicle’s pop music critic.Polo Field, Lindley Meadow and Hellman Hollow in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. www.sfoutsidelands.com
