Songwriter and guitarist who spanned country and rock eras continued his career after 2010 Alzheimer's diagnosisGlen Campbell, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, actor and TV show host whose performing career was as panoramic as his talents, died Tuesday.Campbell, who had been living in a long-term care facility in Tennessee, was diagnosed with the degenerative brain disorder Alzheimer’s disease in late 2010, and it was announced publicly in June 2011.Over his career, Campbell — perhaps best known for the 1975 hit “Rhinestone Cowboy” — released more than 60 albums and sold 45 million records, many achieving gold, platinum and double-platinum status and posting hit singles on the country and adult contemporary charts.[...] he brandished a versatility that went beyond country; he even played with the Beach Boys in late 1964 and early 1965, subbing on tour for Brian Wilson, and singing on the Beach Boys’ legendary album “Pet Sounds.”Campbell recorded three by the composer Jimmy Webb — “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman” and “Galveston” — that struck a chord with a public saturated with the edge and intensity of rock music of the day. After hosting a replacement for CBS’s popular “Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,” Campbell got his own show, “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour,” which ran on CBS for three seasons (Rob Reiner was a staff writer).According to a June 3, 2016 story in The Boot, a country-music news web site, Campbell secured new management committed to unearthing music that Campbell recorded but never released. There are unreleased recordings of him with The Wrecking Crew – lots of them, Kimbrell said, referencing the legendary but largely unknown L.A. studio musicians who played on many of the 60’s greatest hits.

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — If Kyle Busch seemed to take a bit longer to take his customary bow after a NASCAR victory, it was understandable.Busch recovered from a spinout and a pit road penalty and survived a late restart to win the Zippo 200 on Saturday, his first triumph at Watkins Glen International in the Xfinity series and 90th in his career.Busch topped the Penske Racing duo of Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski and easily beat them on a restart with three laps to go.Busch has also won 39 Cup races and 48 Truck Series races for 177 overall NASCAR wins.
- Late surge puts Spieth in control at Glen Oaks
By Associated Press - Saturday Aug 26, 2017
Jordan Spieth needed only three holes to leave a strong cast of challengers wondering what it’s going to take to catch him in the Northern Trust at Old Westbury, N.Y. Spieth ran off three straight birdies on the back nine at Glen Oaks Club and finished with a pair of pars for a 6-under-par 64, matching the low score of the tournament and building a three-shot lead over Dustin Johnson. It was the second straight day that Spieth filled his card with birdies on the easier back nine at Glen Oaks — a 30 on Friday, a 31 on Saturday.

Rossi, of Nevada City (Nevada County), used a stroke of good fortune to win the IndyCar Grand Prix at The Glen on Sunday from the pole, leading just over half of the 60-lap race and easily holding off four-time series champion Scott Dixon over the closing laps at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International for his second career victory. His first one came last year in the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.
