Claude Giroux, Scott Laughton and Sean Couturier each scored two goals to lead Philadelphia to an 8-2 victory over the Capitals on Saturday night. Wayne Simmonds and Valtteri Filppula also scored for the Flyers in their home opener. Brian Elliott rebounded from a six-goal outing against Nashville to stop 21 shots and win for the third time this season. “It was good to have a couple of days in between to put it behind us,” Giroux said. Washington’s Alex Ovechkin, the NHL’s leading scorer, failed to record a goal or assist for just the second time in six games. The Flyers scored two goals in the first period and three in both the second and third.
