Joana Carneiro, the Berkeley Symphony’s dynamic and adventurous music director, was out of action all last season, for a very good reason: She became the mother of triplets. Now she’s back with a vengeance, ready to unleash an ambitious new season with the orchestra. The season opener features the world premiere of a cello concerto by the young Australian composer William Gardiner, with Tessa Seymour as soloist. Packed in around it are works by Beethoven and Shostakovich, and John Adams’ “Fearful Symmetries” closes the program. — Joshua Kosman Berkeley Symphony Orchestra: 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5.
