- Song From Above wins at Alameda County Fair
By Larry Stumes - Sunday Jul 2, 2017
[...] Song From Above had nine weeks between her 1-length debut win against male opponents April 29 and her 3-length triumph over fellow fillies Saturday. Two of the workouts were at 6 furlongs — a 16th of a mile longer than the 5½-furlong Juan Gonzalez Memorial — so Specht and jockey Frank Alvarado knew she was plenty fit.[...] Song From Above proved she’s a talented filly Saturday with a nice inside move past the leaders to take command in early stretch.Earlier on Saturday’s program, Senorita stretched her winning streak to eight with a front-running victory by 1¼ lengths in the $5,800 Black Ruby Stakes for mules. …Among his opponents in the 6-furlong Independence Day feature are Grade 3 winner Rocket Heat, who returned from a layoff to set the pace and finish third in the Albany Stakes on June 10 at Golden Gate Fields, and Yahoo Tahoe, who rallied to win two straight $40,000 claimers.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A New York state agency launched four years ago to protect the disabled from abuse and neglect was staffed with a team of investigators and prosecutors empowered to bring criminal cases against alleged wrongdoers. But it lacked one key thing, according to three recent court rulings: the legal authority to actually prosecute anyone. That has potentially put dozens of convictions in jeopardy and threatens to undermine the mission of the agency, known as the Justice Center, to protect the 1 million disabled, addicted and mentally ill in state care.
