By Michael Cabanatuan - Friday Sep 22, 2017
Runners racing across the Golden Gate Bridge in events like the San Francisco Marathon will have to stick to the sidewalks, the bridge district’s Board of Directors decided Friday. Until now, participants the San Francisco Marathon and the Rock ’n’ Roll San Francisco Half Marathon have been allowed run on the roadway, but the board put an end to it. The board voted to no longer make exceptions to a policy that precludes closing the bridge in either direction to accommodate large events, typically footraces that request to use one or two traffic lanes on an early weekend morning.
