  • Harvey closes Chevron’s Houston offices, but offshore oil platforms still functioning
    By David R. Baker - Tuesday Aug 29, 2017

Chevron Corp. has closed its Houston offices amid the widespread flooding triggered by Tropical Storm Harvey. Although based in San Ramon, Chevron has more employees and contractors in the Houston area — about 8,000 — than in any other place. Chevron said its Houston offices remain functional, but they have been closed for business except for a skeleton staff of “essential personnel.” The oil company, America’s second-largest, did not offer an estimate for when the offices would reopen. Chevron’s offshore oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico remain operational, the company said. David R. Baker is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer. Email: dbaker@sfchronicle.
