  • An ‘Amazing Race’ down the aisle for cinematic couple
By Alix Wall - Thursday Dec 31, 2015

An ‘Amazing Race’ down the aisle for cinematic couple When you create a “Mission Impossible”-style video called Operation: Save the Date that goes viral — featuring you coming out of the ocean in wetsuits, only to strip them off to reveal wedding attire, and you ward off villains using a veil that turns into a net and garters that deliver blows to the head, and a wedding cake with a bomb inside, and you end up on a boat underneath the Golden Gate Bridge to convey a “save-the-date” message — well, you know your guests are going to have impossibly high expectations for the actual wedding. [...] when guests arrived at the MacNiven family farm in La Honda on Sept. 26, they were greeted with signs that said “Sasquatch Breeding Ground” (condoms printed with those words served as wedding favors). [...] between the ceremony and reception, as guests enjoyed their cocktails, five furry Sasquatches started charging at the wedding party and harassing the guests. “What were they to do, but call upon the highly trained save-the-date wedding couple?” mused the groom. A helicopter landed with the bride and groom inside. The couple emerged and “started drop-kicking and pouncing on all the Sasquatches to save the guests and the wedding,” said Tyler. While Tyler, 35, is a sometime filmmaker and winner of season nine of “The Amazing Race” with his friend B.J. Averell (they were dubbed “the hippies” by the other teams), he and his family own several popular Bay Area restaurants. Kelly, 33, is from Rancho Palos Verdes (Los Angeles County) and completed her doctorate at Stanford in the spring in cognitive neuroscience, studying whether brain activity can be used to predict relapse from addiction. In 2012, West of Pecos had just opened, and Tyler nearly didn’t make it to the wedding of a friend, because he felt he had to be at the restaurant. At the reception, Tyler and Kelly were assigned to the same table, and Tyler soon learned the handsome man was Kelly’s brother, John Hennigan, a former World Wrestling Entertainment wrestler, who used the name John Morrison professionally. [...] he wanted to know if she believed in horoscopes, since he does not. After a World Series party and a Halloween party at which Tyler dressed as a flasher, he said, “I knew if she could deal with that, she could deal with anything.” “Kelly has the most generous spirit, and she is continuously supportive and hilarious,” Tyler said. Every morning, I wake up thinking ‘Who is this absolutely stunning beauty by my side?’ and then I crack her toes. Before that, he had visited her dad’s law office in a suit to ask for his blessing, and they had both cried.
