  • Is Blogging Dead?
By Kristina Leroux, Community Engagement Manager - Wednesday Aug 9, 2017

I remember it like it was yesterday, the day I first heard the news. BLOGGING IS DEAD – the headline screamed. “No! This can’t be!” I thought to myself while staring at my computer screen sipping my cup of chai tea. But like any good story, this one has a twist. (Cue the dun dun […]

  • In ‘Stage of Siege,’ a cry to heed the world’s madmen
By Lily Janiak - Sunday Oct 22, 2017

Here’s a line that could have been irredeemably cheesy. A mysterious Plague, one that’s both biological and political and that’s personified as a dictator (Serge Maggiani), has taken over a town. One resident, whose apt name is Nada (Philippe Demarle), keeps asserting to the face of doom that he believes in nothing. Assessing him, the Plague’s Secretary (Valérie Dashwood) says, “This one seems to be the kind that believes in nothing, and that kind always proved very useful to us.” You can imagine a dun-dun-dun sound effect coming next. But that’s not at all how the line feels in Théâtre de la Ville-Paris’ “State of Siege,” presented Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21-22, by Cal Performances at Zellerbach Hall.

  • Stanford will try for repeat in volleyball with new coach
By Eric Olson - Thursday Aug 24, 2017

Kevin Hambly’s task would seem daunting. Stanford’s new volleyball coach follows Hall of Famer John Dunning, who retired after winning three national championships and eight Pac-12 titles in 16 years with the Cardinal. Dunning went out on top, winning the last of his five national titles in 2016 after a 32-year career at Stanford and Pacific. Feel any pressure, Kevin? “I don’t think the expectations change here at Stanford the minute you jump in,” he said. “Once you take this job you’re expected to win national championships. That’s not just volleyball. That’s every sport. So I don’t feel more pressure than I would have if they didn’t win it last year or lost in the final.
