  • Yankees paused Carlos Correa’s growing legend — for one night
By Howie Kussoy - Tuesday Oct 17, 2017

Usually, hype is simply a precursor to disappointment. Most often, when you hear a name before you see a face, the expectations are ultimately eviscerated by reality. • Altuve’s dash lifts Verlander, Astros over Yanks in Game 2
By Kristie Rieken - Sunday Oct 15, 2017

HOUSTON — Jose Altuve raced home on Carlos Correa’s double in the ninth inning, Justin Verlander struck out 13 in a complete game and the Houston Astros beat the New York Yankees 2-1 Saturday for a 2-0 lead in the AL Championship Series. Correa also homered, but Houston needed a daring dash from Altuve to get Verlander a win. The 5-foot-6 AL MVP front-runner reached with a one-out single against closer Aroldis Chapman, then sprinted around from first base on Correa’s shot to right-center field, sliding past catcher Gary Sanchez as he misplayed a short-hop. Altuve had two more hits and is 13 for 23 (.565) this postseason.

HOUSTON — Carson Riley has never heard of Jeffrey Maier, but his name might be mentioned with Maier’s for years to come. Carlos Correa’s fourth-inning home run Saturday was hit almost directly at the 12-year-old from Liberty Hill, Texas, and with right fielder Aaron Judge trying to go back to make the catch, the ball...

  • Ex-teammate thinks Sanchez has done ‘exceptionally well’
By Dan Martin - Sunday Oct 15, 2017

HOUSTON — Gary Sanchez’s rough postseason took another bad turn when he botched Didi Gregorius’ throw to the plate in the bottom of the ninth that allowed Jose Altuve to score on Carlos Correa’s double to give the Astros a 2-1 win over the Yankees in Game 2 of the ALCS. Still, Brian McCann, now...
