The rain firefighters in the scorched regions of the North Bay have been craving is set to arrive Thursday night, according to meteorologist predictions. Deadly wildfires in Napa and Sonoma counties spread quickly thanks to dry air, hot temperatures and fast winds, but a cold front and the first winter storm of the season should suppress fire growth and limit the chances for new fires to start. Between two tenths of an inch to four tenths of an inch of precipitation is expected in the wildfire regions, with a half-inch to three quarters of an inch forecast for higher elevations, said Charles Bell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
