  • Ryan Vogelsong retires a Giant — enchiladas or not
By Henry Schulman - Sunday Sep 17, 2017

Ryan Vogelsong did not eat enchiladas Saturday night. He was in the stands at AT&T Park and could not have the food he ritually ate the night before a start. Wife Nicole got him a Cha Cha Bowl. Something else was amiss Sunday before Vogelsong made his final trip to a big-league mound as a player. "This is the first time I came to the ballpark stress-free in a long time," he said. They even hired a balloon guy. “He really put the artist in balloon artist,” says cofounder and CTO Gabriel Flateman, whose company has transformed the mattress business with smart design, low prices, and a clever business model. “He made me this intricate jet pack I was wearing around. I mean, he made a knockoff Chanel bag! But the magician canceled at the last minute, which kind of sucked.”

  • ‘Bring Your Own Queer’ offers up free music, arts festival
By Ryan Kost - Wednesday Sep 6, 2017

After a three-year hiatus, the previously annual BYOQ (Bring Your Own Queer) music and arts festival in Golden Gate Park’s Bandshell is back Saturday, Sept. 9. This’ll mark its sixth iteration, and the lineup is packed. The event, which stretches over six hours and is free to all, is a true community gathering. Programming includes a drag queen story hour and performances by some of the Bay Area’s favorite queer entertainers — including San Cha y Las Sirenas — and a set by DJ Emancipation, one of the organizers of Oakland’s incredibly popular Soulovely dance party. Honey Mahogany is set to host the event.
