  • Rare photos of Marilyn Monroe hiking in the woods, before she was famous
By Alex Arbuckle - Sunday Jul 2, 2017

Image: Ed Clark/The LIFE Picture Collection/Getty Images

In 1950, LIFE photographer Ed Clark got a call from a friend at 20th Century Fox about a “hot tomato” the studio had just signed: Marilyn Monroe.

The young actress had previously signed with Fox in August 1946, but was dropped after the end of her second six-month contract.

Monroe spent the following years honing her craft, taking acting classes, modeling, and befriending executives

In 1950, she appeared in six films, including small parts in The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve.

She was still mostly unknown when she joined Clark for a rustic photoshoot in the woods of Griffith Park in Los Angeles. Read more...

  • Colin Farrell's childhood crush story is hilariously strange
By Sam Haysom - Thursday Nov 16, 2017

Many young boys and girls have posters of a celebrity crush up on their bedroom walls.

    It's pretty normal, right?

Leaving notes and candy in the hope your crush — who also happens to have been dead for 40 years — will come and collect it, though — that's slightly less normal.

In the clip above from Jimmy Kimmel Live, Colin Farrell tells the story of the crush he had on Marilyn Monroe when he was younger.

Okay, so he may have left her Smarties and then got offended when she didn't visit him, but cut him a bit of slack — he was only 7 or 8 at the time, after all. Read more...

  • No, that viral picture doesn't show Hugh Hefner lighting a cigarette for Marilyn Monroe
By Gianluca Mezzofiore - Thursday Sep 28, 2017

People are sharing on Twitter tributes to Hugh Hefner, the Playboy founder who just died, aged 91, at his Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles.

Many people paid tribute mentioning Marilyn Monroe, who famously appeared on the very first cover of the first issue of Playboy magazine in December 1953.

However, a picture circulating on social media allegedly showing Hefner lighting a cigarette for Monroe in 1957 is a fake:

This is not good news for Snap Inc. The parent company of Snapchat saw its shares tumble in after-hours trading today after it reported disappointing user growth in its Q2 2017 earnings. It’s only the second earnings report since Snap went public in March, and hopes for a turnaround are deteriorating. Shares fell to $11.90 after hours, an all-time low. Snap debuted on the NYSE at $17 a share. It fell below that price a month ago and hasn’t recovered. The company reported daily active users growth of 7 million to 173 million total, but analysts were expecting about 8 million new users, CNBC reports. You can check out Snap’s full earnings release here. We’ll have more after the call later today.
