- Hip-hopper Rakim at New Parish in Oakland
By Peter Hartlaub - Tuesday Sep 26, 2017
Rakim is on any old-school-rap fan’s list as one of the greatest emcees of all time, changing the history of music with the Eric B. & Rakim albums “Paid in Full” and “Follow the Leader” in 1987 and 1988. Like fellow legend Dr. Dre, his actual output is occasional, with just three solo albums since Eric. B. & Rakim dissolved in the early 1990s. But the pioneer is back on stages and is scheduled to arrive Friday, Sept. 29, at the New Parish in Oakland, a venue that has been hosting an impressive list of hip-hop legends in recent years, from EPMD to Oakland’s the Coup. This isn’t the full touring reunion with Eric B. everyone is hoping for, but you can expect plenty of tracks from the back catalog.
