- Raiders’ Conley in line for plenty of playing time
By Ron Kroichick - Sunday Sep 17, 2017
Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley, the first-round draft choice from Ohio State, could collect plenty of playing time in his NFL debut Sunday against the New York Jets. Sean Smith was among Oakland’s inactive players for the home opener, with a neck injury. That means TJ Carrie will start at right cornerback, opposite David Amerson on the left side. It also means Conley now is the Raiders’ third cornerback, so he’ll be on the field a lot in passing situations. Conley missed all of training camp, all four preseason games and the regular-season opener with a shin injury. He didn’t fully participate in practice until Thursday.
