Rapper Common surprises students at NY school, donates moneyNEW YORK (AP) — Oscar and Grammy winner Common surprised a group of New York students by donating $10,000 to help their teachers buy supplies like calculators and science kits.The rapper-actor partnered with the nonprofit AdoptAClassroom.org and Burlington Stores to give Renaissance School of the Arts in Harlem the funds on Thursday.Jadon-Li M. Antoine, an aspiring musician, actor and dancer, said Common's visit motivates him to keep aiming for his dreams.Burlington has been raising money from its 599 stores to help other schools, asking customers to donate $1 or more.

Amazon Studios announced on Thursday that Woody Allen’s “Wonder Wheel” will premiere on the closing night of the New York Film Festival and will be released in theaters on Dec. 1 as the first film the studio will distribute on its own.Taking place at Coney Island in the 1950s, “Wonder Wheel” tells the story of a struggling carousel operator on the famous New York boardwalk (Jim Belushi) and his wife (Kate Winslet).I mean that literally and figuratively, because Allen and [cinematographer] Vittorio Storaro use light and color in a way that is stunning in and of itself but also integral to the mounting emotional power of the film.

Before we chat about Karen Allen’s new film, let’s get this out of the way: She is hoping to be a part of “Indiana Jones” part 5. “I’m imagining we’ll know within the next year,” Allen said by phone from a film festival in Port Townsend, Wash. “I would very much love to be part of it. Our characters got married at the end of the last episode. I don’t know, but I’m hoping they’ve found a way for our story to continue.” Allen’s most famous role is that of Marion Ravenwood, the independent, no-nonsense partner of Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
