SHANGHAI — The Warriors have submitted a bid to host the NBA All-Star Game, a source has confirmed with The Chronicle. ESPN was the first to report the news. Though the bid submission year is unclear, the earliest it would be is reportedly for 2021. Golden State is scheduled to open its new arena, the Chase Center, in time for the 2019-20 season. The Chase Center, which began construction last season, will be an 18,000-seat, state-of-the-art arena in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood. Per the ESPN report, that new facility is expected to give the Warriors a great shot at bringing All-Star Weekend to the Bay Area for the third time ever and the first since 2000.

- Stephen Curry a fan of NBA’s new All-Star Game format
By Connor Letourneau - Wednesday Oct 4, 2017
SHENZHEN, China — Last season, Stephen Curry led fan voting for Western Conference All-Stars. The Warriors point guard would select his own All-Star team if he wins the fan vote again this season. The NBA All-Star game is switching formats, doing away with conference-specific teams in favor of a pick-up-style draft, the league announced Tuesday. The players who win the fan vote will be the captains. In that role, they will choose from a pool of 24 players (12 from each conference). “It’s the playground-type dynamics when you could pick your teams growing up, when you used to play open gyms or whatnot,” Curry said before practice Wednesday at Shenzhen City Arena.
