  • We’ve seen Joe Mauer’s Hall of Fame case before
By Joel Sherman - Monday Sep 18, 2017

The last time the Twins reached the postseason, 2009-10, eliminated both years in the division series by the Yankees, Joe Mauer was not only their best player, but on the short list with Albert Pujols and a few others as the best in the game. That version of Mauer is gone, not in The Bronx...

By Greg Joyce - Thursday Sep 21, 2017

  • Young players power Twins, Yankees into playoffs
By Jake Seiner - Monday Oct 2, 2017

NEW YORK — Minnesota first baseman Joe Mauer remembers well all those October losses to the Yankees. So too, surely, do the Twins’ fans. New York eliminated the Twins in the Division Series four times from 2003 through ’10, repeatedly dashing the World Series aspirations of a largely homegrown lineup. “Somebody asked me earlier, ‘Does it feel like seven years?’” Mauer said.

  • Ex-NY Senate leader Skelos gets new trial in corruption case
By JENNIFER PELTZ, Associated Press - Tuesday Sep 26, 2017

NEW YORK (AP) — Former New York state Senate leader Dean Skelos and his son were granted new trials Tuesday in their corruption case, with a federal appeals court citing a Supreme Court ruling that has already unraveled convictions of other powerful politicians. The court found the jury in Dean and Adam Skelos' case was wrongly instructed, in light of a recent Supreme Court ruling narrowing the definition of what it takes to convict a public official."Because we cannot conclude that the (instruction) error was harmless beyond a reasonable doubt, we are obliged to vacate the convictions," the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals wrote.
