  • S.F. sues Richmond District massage parlor, alleging illicit activity

    San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera has sued the owners of a Richmond District massage parlor, accusing them of operating a brothel. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in San Francisco Superior Court, was announced at the same time as a $295,000 settlement the city reached with another alleged brothel on the edge of the Financial District, ending legal action that Herrera brought in February. The new suit accuses Paradise Health Center at 242 Balboa St. of soliciting prostitution since at least October 2012 though advertisements in places “notorious for soliciting erotic services,” according to a statement by the city attorney’s office.

  • Tuskegee Syphilis Study descendants to seek settlement money

    The head of an organization for descendants of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study said the money could help fund college scholarships the group provides, and members would like to develop a memorial garden dedicated to the men.The Voices group has sent a letter to U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson asking him to withhold a decision on the money until they have time to hire a lawyer and file documents in the long-running, class-action lawsuit over the study.[...] revealed by The Associated Press in 1972, the study ended and the men sued, resulting in the settlement.
