A junkyard in American Canyon caught fire Sunday afternoon, sending plumes of black smoke into the air that was visible as far away as Oakland. The blaze started about 3 p.m. and quickly swept through about 20 acres of the scrap yard burning dozens of cars — and parts of cars, said Scott McLean, a spokesman for Cal Fire. He said the junkyard is in the 800 block of Green Island Road, just east of the Napa River. No one was injured and no homes were threatened. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear, and McLean said fire officials were investigating. As of about 4:30 p.m.
