A storm sweeping across the Bay Area Wednesday morning is expected to bring up to two inches of rain to the North Bay mountains and half an inch to San Francisco by the end of the week, forecasters said. Showers were already reported in parts of Sonoma County early Wednesday and sprinkles were anticipated to reach Santa Rosa by midmorning, said Anna Schneider, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. The North Bay mountains could receive up to two inches of rain and up to an an inch in the valleys by Friday, Schneider said. The precipitation will then move southeast, reach San Francisco around noon and continue to the East and South bays.

Man dies after crashing into utility pole in DanvilleThe man was driving east on Stone Valley Road at Monte Sereno Drive across from Monte Vista High School about 10:35 a.m. when he crashed into a utility pole, according to Chief Allen Shields of the Danville Police Department.Stone Valley Road was closed for much of the day as Pacific Gas and Electric worked to repair the utility pole, according to police.
