  • Clueless in East Meadow
    By Stitches - Wednesday Aug 9, 2017

The Tool in the Pool is back. Ryan “Blame it on Rio” Lochte successfully returned from his 10-month suspension by winning the 200-meter medley in record time Sunday at the U.S. Open in Long Island. Of greater importance though is that the gas station bathrooms in and around the East Meadow N.Y. area are still...

  • Federer comes back to edge Youzhny for 2nd 5-set US Open win
By Howard Fendrich - Thursday Aug 31, 2017

NEW YORK — Given that Roger Federer entered Thursday with a 16-0 career record against his opponent, Mikhail Youzhny, and a 16-0 mark in the U.S. Open’s second round, one might have thought that their meeting at that stage in Flushing Meadows would have been no contest at all. Think again. Federer set aside an uncharacteristic 68 unforced errors and what appeared to be a bad back, managing to pull out his second five-set victory in a row at the U.S. Open by coming back to edge Youzhny 6-1, 6-7 (3), 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. It is the first time in his long career that the 36-year-old Federer has played five-setters in both the first and second rounds at a Grand Slam tournament.

  • Red Sox fire manager John Farrell after 2nd straight ALDS defeat
By Associated Press - Wednesday Oct 11, 2017

John Farrell racked up a lot of wins and a World Series title with the Boston Red Sox. But past success wasn’t enough to save his job after consecutive early playoff exits. Boston fired Farrell on Wednesday after the team’s second straight loss in an American League Division Series. The Red Sox announced the move less than 48 hours after they were eliminated from the World Series hunt with a 5-4 loss to the Houston Astros. Farrell’s contract had been scheduled to run through the 2018 season. Boston completed back-to-back American League East titles for the first time in franchise history this season despite losing the bat of retired designated hitter David Ortiz.
