  • Body of white shark, likely struck by boat, vandalized after washing up in Monterey Bay
By Michelle Robertson - Saturday Aug 19, 2017

The body of a juvenile white shark washed ashore in Monterey Bay Thursday. Hours later, vandals hacked off its dorsal fin and removed most of its teeth.

Surfers and homeowners spotted the approximately 10-foot-long shark near 26th Avenue in Live Oak, near Santa Cruz, on Thursday evening. By the time first responders from the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation (PSRF) in Santa Cruz arrived, the shark had been swept back to sea. Shortly after it resurfaced early Friday morning, the pillagers struck.
