  • S.F. sues Richmond District massage parlor, alleging illicit activity

    San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera has sued the owners of a Richmond District massage parlor, accusing them of operating a brothel. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in San Francisco Superior Court, was announced at the same time as a $295,000 settlement the city reached with another alleged brothel on the edge of the Financial District, ending legal action that Herrera brought in February. The new suit accuses Paradise Health Center at 242 Balboa St. of soliciting prostitution since at least October 2012 though advertisements in places “notorious for soliciting erotic services,” according to a statement by the city attorney’s office.

  • Jim Landis, World Series outfielder who grew up in Richmond, dies at 83

    Jim Landis, who grew up in Richmond and played center field for the 1959 Chicago White Sox World Series team, died Saturday morning in Napa after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was 83. Mr. Landis played 11 seasons in the big leagues, the first eight in Chicago, and was a two-time All-Star and spectacular runner and defender who won five straight Gold Glove Awards. Mr. Landis didn’t suffer in his final days and watched playoff baseball games with family and friends, according to his wife, Sandy Landis. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Friday.

LOUIS (AP) — The Latest on protests in St. Louis over acquittal of officer in black man's shooting death (all times local):8:05 p.m.Protests of a white former police officer's acquittal in the killing of a black man in St. Louis moved to the Ritz Carlton hotel in Clayton, Missouri, after police arrested at least 22 people at an upscale shopping mall in a different suburb.The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the arrests occurred Saturday afternoon at the St. Louis Galleria in Richmond Heights. The protests started peacefully, but some in the group became disorderly and trash cans were overturned. That led officers to clear out the mall and make arrests.St.
