- Bay Area events to offer many angles on eclipse
By Steve Rubenstein - Friday Aug 18, 2017
Real eclipse fanatics will have left the Bay Area for prime watching areas in points north and east but, for those who remain, the 156-minute solar spectacle will be playing — safely — at science museums, libraries and countless other public places under the sun. There will be eclipse lectures, eclipse safety telescopes, eclipse story time, eclipse chamber music, eclipse viewing parties, eclipse coffee cup holders and even eclipse-related pointers on how to save energy. The partial eclipse begins in the Bay Area at 9:01 a.m. on Monday and ends at 11:37 a.m. About halfway through, 76 percent of the sun will be covered by the shadow of the moon.
- Trump visit spotlights Three Seas plan for more energy ties
By VANESSA GERA, Associated Press - Wednesday Jul 5, 2017
WARSAW, Poland (AP) — During a visit to Warsaw on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with regional leaders at a summit of the Three Seas Initiative — an effort to improve trade, infrastructure and energy links among the 12 nations between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas. Most of the region's critical infrastructure, including roads and rail services, run on an east-west corridor partly due to Germany's economic dominance. The project aims to develop more and better connections along a north-south axis in the areas of energy, transportation and digital communications "to complete the single European market."Another key goal of Three Seas is to promote greater energy independence from Moscow, which has sometimes wielded its gas and oil as a political tool over a swath of central and eastern Europe.Poland recently received its first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States at Swinoujscie, a port on the Baltic coast. There still are concerns in Slovakia, Hungary and elsewhere that Poland's euroskeptic government could use the cooperation project as a political tool to carve out more influence in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Tool in the Pool is back. Ryan “Blame it on Rio” Lochte successfully returned from his 10-month suspension by winning the 200-meter medley in record time Sunday at the U.S. Open in Long Island. Of greater importance though is that the gas station bathrooms in and around the East Meadow N.Y. area are still...
