  • Cancer drug research moving fast in immunotherapy field
By Michelle Fay Cortez - Tuesday Sep 5, 2017

The last few weeks have been historic in the fight against cancer. Novartis got approval for the first treatment in a revolutionary new class of drugs, shortly after Gilead Sciences Inc. spent $11.9 billion on a biotech company working in the field. Neither can rest on its laurels. Research in the field is moving so fast that today’s breakthroughs can easily become tomorrow’s has-beens. “I can’t think of any other therapies in oncology that have seen such rapid development,” said Rachel Webster, senior director of oncology at Decision Resources Group, a health care research and consulting firm in London.

  • Fox Paid Sexual Harassment Claim Against Top Murdoch Deputy David Hill (Exclusive)
By Sharon Waxman and Matt Donnelly, provided by
    - Tuesday Jul 18, 2017

21st Century Fox paid off a woman who accused former top executive David Hill of sexual misconduct while he ran Fox Sports, two individuals with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. The payment happened in 1998, and suggests Fox had issues with sexual harassment long before the investigations that led to the exits of Fox News star Bill O’Reilly and founder Roger Ailes, and the ouster of Fox Sports President Jamie Horowitz last month.Hill, part of Fox chief Rupert Murdoch’s inner circle, was promoted to chairman of Fox Sports Media Group the following year, and had a 24-year career with the company that ended in 2015.The Australian-born Hill stepped down in 2015 to open a Fox-backed production company called Hilly Inc. He also co-produced the 2016 Academy Awards. In early July, the Fox Business Network suspended “Making Money” anchor Charles Payne amid an investigation into sexual harassment.Fox last year vowed to change its culture, taking measures like emergency refresher courses in sensitivity training for the news division — something the channel’s head of human resources called “critical” to maintaining the workplace.

  • Richmond mayor witnessed mob attack outside BART station
By Filipa Ioannou - Friday Jul 21, 2017

Butt said two BART employees sat in a nearby truck and watched the Thursday morning attack, apparently doing nothing, as the victim was beaten and kicked by the group of juveniles, while a brave woman intervened. The mayor snapped a photo of the two men wearing neon utility vests sitting in a truck with the BART logo. BART police said 5 to 6 juveniles assaulted the man, kicking and punching him shortly before 11:30 a.m., while Butt estimated the group numbered about a dozen. The boys escaped into the surrounding area, police said. Butt said he called 911, but was greeted by confusion as to whether the incident was under the jurisdiction of BART or Richmond police. To me, it’s crazy for a BART police officer to have to respond to something like this that’s right in the heart of downtown Richmond, he said. The mayor emailed the BART board of directors and the Richmond police chief to express his concerns, he said.
