  • How to upload multiple Photos libraries to a single iCloud Photo Library
By Glenn Fleishman - By Glenn Fleishman - Wednesday Jun 21, 2017

How to upload multiple Photos libraries to a single iCloud Photo Library

Rob Rosenbaum has a slightly terrifying question. He’s been syncing photos from a single iPhone to two different Macs via USB—just importing them on each Mac. He is about to turn on iCloud Photo Library, but he wonders.

Once I turn this on for the first time, will iCloud import everything from all three? Even if it’s the same photo? Will anything be erased?

Before you change any settings, I recommend making a full local backup of all your libraries, just in case. Photos and iCloud Photo Library is much better and more stable than in its earlier releases, but you never know what might happen.

By Kirk McElhearn - By Kirk McElhearn - Friday Jun 16, 2017

    Importing movies

Q: I have over a hundred movies stored on an external hard drive and have been unable to import any of them into my iTunes library. How do I do this?

This correspondent didn’t say which formats the videos are in, but it’s likely that there in a format that iTunes doesn’t support. iTunes only accepts videos in the H.264 and MPEG-4 formats, in files with the .m4v, .mp4, and .mov extensions.

  • iCloud Photo Library’s sync need fixing
By Kirk McElhearn - By Kirk McElhearn - Friday Jun 23, 2017

I love iCloud Photo Library. It’s brain-dead simple to use (unlike iCloud Music Library), and it ensures that all my photos are in sync on all my devices. Lately, having bought a new camera, I’ve been taking a lot of pictures, and I’ve been wanting to view them and edit them on my iPad, with Enlight or Affinity Photo, a powerful photo editing app that was highlighted in Apple’s recent WWDC keynote. But syncing from my iMac, where I import photos, to my other devices can take a long time.
