  • Warriors’ Damian Jones showcasing progress in Summer League
By Connor Letourneau - Sunday Jul 9, 2017

Casey Hill, then the Santa Cruz Warriors’ head coach, smiled each of the three or four times a winded Jones asked to come off the court.Because after weeks harping on the 7-foot, 245-pound rookie to give consistent effort, Hill was finally seeing Jones’ motor match his physical tools. In the Warriors’ 95-93 loss Saturday night to Philadelphia at Summer League, Jones looked more like an NBA contributor than a long-term project.Anchored to the post in his limited NBA minutes last season, he is at ease enough to attempt the shots in games that he works on in practice.Because with free-agent center JaVale McGee’s status still in flux, Golden State could need Jones to play meaningful minutes next season.Jones tore his right pectoral muscle while weight lifting 12 days before going 30th overall to Golden State in the 2016 NBA draft. In his first few D-League assignments, Jones — whose four-year rookie contract is worth up to $5.9 million — labored against players earning $19,500 or $26,000, the D-League’s two annual salary levels.A week removed from Golden State’s second NBA title in three years last month, Jones was back at the team’s practice facility in downtown Oakland.

    - Monday Jul 17, 2017

The family of the Sarah Jones, a camera assistant killed while working on the Gregg Allman biopic “Midnight Rider,” was awarded $11.2 million Monday in a civil suit over her death.Jones, 27, was killed in 2014 during the filming of a dream sequence in which William Hurt, playing Allman, occupied a hospital bed on a live railroad trestle above the Altamaha River near Doctortown, Georgia. Director Randall Miller served a year in jail after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespassing.“CSX is deeply sympathetic to the terrible loss suffered by the family of Ms. Sarah Jones, but respectfully disagrees with the conclusions reached by the jury today and will appeal,” said Rob Doolittle, a spokesman at the Jacksonville, Florida-based company.Attorneys for Jones’ family argued that CSX should have taken precautions to avoid the crash, and said two CSX trains that passed the movie crew before the collision should have reported the group.
