You can just wait at home and let Instacart do all that work instead. Aldi announced today that starting later this month customers in Atlanta, Dallas, and Los Angeles will soon be able to order groceries from …

  • Dude discovers his airport selfie with Jessica Alba is displayed in a deli he's never been to
By Chloe Bryan - Thursday Jul 6, 2017

Let this tale be a lesson to you: you never know where your Instagrams are going to end up.

Last January, Dave Jennings took a selfie with Jessica Alba after running into her at the airport. He posted the photo to Imgur and people saw it. Great!

But the real story begins this week, when Jennings's friend Jack spotted the photo above the counter at a Monterey, California, deli. A deli that Jennings had never been to.

And, unfortunately, Jennings hadn't made the final crop.

So, why did a deli want to display this particular photo? Who knows! Perhaps Alba had visited the deli, but the managers didn't get a chance to snap a pic of their own — in which case, that's what the internet is for. Read more...

  • This Tiny Grocery Store Is Mobile, Self-Driving, And Run By AI
By Adele Peters - Tuesday Jun 13, 2017

Can the Moby store bring locally controlled convenience stores to places that lack a simple place to buy essentials?

In Shanghai, a prototype of a new 24-hour convenience store has no staff, no registers, and the whole thing is on wheels, designed to eventually drive itself to a warehouse to restock, or to a customer to make a delivery.

  • Driverless vans will now deliver groceries in London
By Brett Williams - Wednesday Jun 28, 2017

Forget drones — self-driving cars can now deliver your groceries.

Autonomous delivery vehicles are making drop-offs in London as part of a trial program and study spearheaded by University of Oxford self-driving spin-off Oxbotica, as well as Ocado Technologies, a developmental division of the UK-based, online-only supermarket service.

The project aims to test out an emission-free, electric self-driving van—dubbed the CargoPod—as a low-impact last step in the fulfillment chain to get orders to customers. The trial is limited to a few developments in the Royal Borough of Greenwich as part of the larger, government-backed GATEway Project. Read more...

  • George and Amal Clooney to help 3,000 Syrian refugee children go to school
By Gianluca Mezzofiore - Tuesday Aug 1, 2017

George and Amal Clooney are stepping up their efforts to help Syrian refugee children get a formal education in Lebanon.

The Clooney Foundation for Justice said it's teaming up with Google and HP Inc to support the U.N. children's agency, Unicef, and the Lebanese ministry of education in their bid to open seven "second shift" schools for Syrian refugee children.

The project, which includes a $3.25 million donation from the three entities involved, will pay for transportation, school supplies, computers, content, curriculum and teacher training of 3,000 currently out-of-school refugee students.  Read more...
