Southbound I-880 closed due to police activity Southbound Interstate 880 was closed near San Leandro on Monday morning while police investigated a shooting that left one driver critically injured with a head wound, the California Highway Patrol said. Trucks were being allowed to use Interstate 580, from which they are usually banned, while the closure is in effect.

The California Highway Patrol fielded multiple calls Wednesday morning from drivers on Interstate 580 near the Oakland Zoo who believed they spotted kangaroos by the side of the freeway, officials said.The other alleged kangaroo, which was reported on the other side of Interstate 580, turned out to be a dead fawn, according to CHP Officer Matthew Hamer.“If you’re driving down the freeway and you see something this big, with the Oakland Zoo so close, it’s easy to make the connection,” said Hamer.The raccoon was removed by a CHP officer, and the fawn was removed by Caltrans employees, CHP reported.
