    At the Institute of Hip Hop Entrepreneurship in Philadelphia, traditional business school professors have been replaced with the hip-hop artist Bahamadia, the DJ Rich Medina, Ruffhouse Records cofounder Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo, and more than 20 industry insiders. But students aren’t trying to make it in the music world. Instead, the program’s goal is to share lessons from hip-hop that students can translate into their own successful startups–and to make a typically dry curriculum both more interesting and culturally relevant.

    Jay Z seems to be in a really good mood right now.

    And why wouldn't he be. He's just been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, becoming the first hip hop artist to do so. 

    Jay hopped on Twitter Thursday night to thank those who've inspired him: Like golden age hip hop luminaries De La Soul, to '90s R&B stars like Lauryn Hill, and also modern rappers like Kendrick Lamar. 

    There's more than 80 artists he's thanked in his series of tweets.

    The hip-hop world is collectively in mourning Tuesday as Prodigy, half of the the legendary rap duo Mobb Deep, died at the age of 42 earlier this week, according to a statement released by his publicist. The news comes just a week after a performance at New York's annual Summer Jam music festival. 

    According to a statement provided to Complex and various outlets, the genre-defining rapper, born Alton Johnson, died after a lifetime battling sickle cell anemia: 

    Johnson's battle with the disease was not private, but since Prodigy's passing countless tributes from musicians and fans have cropped up, including hashtags #RIPProdigy and #MobbDeep trending on Twitter.  Read more...
